ERC Broadband Announces RFQ for Construction in Buncombe County PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 05 October 2011 09:24

Asheville, NC (Oct. 5, 2011) - The Education and Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas (ERC) is building to an additional location in Buncombe County as a part of The Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative / BTOP2 Stimulus award. This location was not part of the original Construction RFP and is an underground build in an area that was designated as a predominately-aerial segment. The ERC is looking to receive additional quotes for construction and splicing.

A location - A splice enclosure will be placed at the northwest corner of the Sardis Road and Brevard Road intersection. (Note: this enclosure in not in place at this time.)

Z location – 330 Ridgefield Court. The Asheville campus of Montreat College

This will be underground fiber construction, and ERC anticipates at least three hand-holes along this route.  We request a 48 fiber count along this route to the campus and that all quotes include all construction costs, including splicing. We will be procuring construction materials via the BTOP2 materials RFP awardee, as well as certain splicing materials (splice enclosures, trays and heat shrinks). Other splicing materials will need to be included in the price to construct / splice.

The original BTOP2 construction/splicing RFP is attached for reference on technical specifications and Davis-Bacon considerations. Note: MCNC will not be involved in this RFQ process. All questions and RFQ responses should be via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

All quote responses must be received by 5PM 10/15/2011.
